The Disability Services Office at Loyalist College is offering an eight week on-line summer course that can be completed from your home computer using Internet resources.      

Just think, you can keep your summer job or holiday plans - log on with your password and do your work whenever you want, wherever you are.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone with a disability and who is registered or wait-listed for any Ontario college or university.

Why Should I Participate?

Research has shown that this course will help ease your transition into post-secondary education and greatly contribute to your success.

How Much Time Will It Take?

The eight-week course, which can be completed at your own pace, is estimated to take approximately 20 hours.    Timeline:  end of June - mid August.

On-Site Sessions

Meet your OLTSL Instructor and fellow students.  Participants will be involved in two on-site sessions.   The opening session will be held June 26th, 2008 and the closing session will be held August 21st, 2008 at the Loyalist College campus.

Meals will be provided and travel bursaries may be available.

What Do I Need?

Basic computer skills and regular access to a computer with an Internet connection (at home, at a public library, or at school).

Note:  the course has been designed to be accessible to individuals who require screen readers and alternative navigational devices.

Course Resources:

As part of your supply fee, you will be provided with all necessary resources.  You will also explore Internet-based resources and participate in on-line discussions.

Assistive Technology

A wide range of state-of-the-art technology will be introduced at the opening session in June.

Kurzweil 3000, TextHelp Read and Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Inspiration and ReadPlease

What Will I Learn?

· More about your strengths and challenges.

· Skills you will need for the college or university program that you will begin in the fall, as well as skills that are necessary to be competitive in the workplace.

· Strategies and accommodations that will help you improve your learning and be successful.

· Self-advocacy skills that will help you in the post-secondary environment.

What Will It Cost?

The cost is jsut $111.20.  Scholarships may be available for students with identified disabilities.

Upon Registration

All registrants will receive a registration package by email which will include a course outline and all the details for the opening and closing sessions.

Participants will be required to send in their latest documentation.  More information will be included in your registration package.
