Boxes to enter WebCT username & password don't appear

If you click on the Login to WebCT hyperlink, and are immediately given an "unauthorized" message, your browser is likely currently set up to try to access any Login sites anonymously. You need to turn this anonymous login setting off before you'll be allowed to login with your own login information.

When I login, a message appears that says "unsupported"

There are specific requirements for WebCT -- for the browser especially. Please click on 'Browser Check' in the top left menu bar of this page -- it'll tell you what version of either Netscape or Internet Exporer you have, and whether or not it is 'supported'. Browsers that identify themselves as being "unsupported" cannot be used with WebCT.

The other option is to try the 'other' browser. If you regularly use Netscape, try the version of Internet Explorer loaded on your computer or vice-versa.

If all else fails, and if you're a Durham or strictly online student this might not be too helpful -- please use the computers on campus. They are configured correctly. Currently on campus you'll need to use Internet Explorer until the version of netscape is upgraded.

When I try to take a quiz or view discussion postings, nothing happens

While using WebCT, if you are unable to view discussion postings, quiz windows, and download links, then you need to disable pop-up blocking for your WebCT Server.

Depending on the pop-up blocking software you are using, you may be able to set your WebCT server as an allowed site or you may need to disable the pop-up blocker while using WebCT (The WebCT server is officially 192.139.237.16) .

Pop-up blockers work in the background while you browse the internet. When they detect a pop-up window that may be an unwanted advertisement, they automatically close the window. This can prevent WebCT from performing properly.

To disable pop-up blockers for WebCT:

a) Search your hard drive for any software with "pop-up" in the name. Disable it or set your WebCT server as an allowed site. Examples of popular pop-up blocking applications include:

• Pop-Up Stopper
• Pop-Up Defender
• Pop-Up Zapper

b) Pop-up blocking functions are included in some anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, and browser programs. Disable the relevant setting in the program or set your WebCT server as an allowed site. Examples of programs that include pop-up blocking functions include the following.
