WebCT does not support all browsers, thus before using it you should check whether your current browser is supported. You can do a more detailed test at the WebCT.com browser tune-up page here.

Setting the Browser Cache
To ensure that you are viewing the most current version of your WebCT course, set your browser to update cached pages regularly.

For Internet Explorer 5.x and higher:

  • From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet files, click Settings
  • Under Check for newer versions of stored pages, select Automatically
  • Click OK. The Internet Options window appears.
  • Click OK. The cache setting is updated.

For Netscape Navigator 6.2 and higher:

  • From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  • In the Category section, under Advanced, select Cache.
  • Under Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network, select one of the following:
    • If using Netscape Navigator 6.2.x, select automatically
    • If using Netscape Navigator 7.0.x, select when the page is out of date
  • Click OK. The cache setting is updated.

Enabling Java™
To ensure that Whiteboard, Chat, the WebEQ Equation Editor, and the HTML editor function correctly, you must enable Java on your browser.

For Internet Explorer 5.x and higher:
From the Tools menu, select Internet Options o Click the Security tab.
Click Custom Level. The Security Settings window appears.
Scroll down to Microsoft VM, and under Java permissions, select one of the following safety settings:

  • High safety
  • Low safety
  • Medium safety
  • Click OK. A confirmation message appears.
  • Click Yes. The Internet Options window appears.
  • Click OK. The Java setting is updated

For Netscape Navigator 7.0:

  • From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  • In the Category section, select Advanced.
  • Ensure that Enable Java is selected.
  • Click OK. The Java setting is updated.

For Netscape Navigator 6.x:

  • From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  • In the Category section, select Advanced.
  • Ensure that Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are selected.
  • Click OK. The Java setting is updated
