Compton's World Atlas
The Compton’s World Atlas opens with a colour map of the world; from here
the possibilities are numerous. With the Profile button on the toolbar,
you can choose an area or country and explore the background, communications,
defenses, geography, economy, people, transportation and government information.
The Stats button offers 22 categories, from urban population down to the
average household size. The Earth button shows you all the different aspects
of our planet, such as global warming, volcanoes, earthquakes, deforestation
and endangered species. Meteorology is also covered in the Weather selection,
describing jet streams, hurricanes and even ice caps. Whether you’re looking
for statistics, or just wondering what a National Anthem sounds like,
you’ll find it in Compton’s World Atlas.
Encarta 2000 World Atlas
Encarta 2000 World Atlas reveals more than 1.7 million place names on
the map. Zoom in for detailed views of city streets, waterways, or the
local flora and fauna. New features include the new multimedia map with
sights and sounds of faraway places and cultures as images, world music,
flags and nation anthems. You can explore geological and geographical
phenomena with the new map treks, then trek to similar sites around the
globe for comparison. The new latitude and longitude lines allow you to
navigate the globe with pinpoint precision. Last, but certainly not least,
the new map highlights where provinces, states, countries or regions you
select stand out in reverse highlight for easier viewing.
Global Explorer
DeLorme’s Global Explorer is a computerized map of the entire world in
varying levels of detail. Use zooming, panning and other tools to help
you locate specific places or airline routes. Global Explorer contains
indexed references to more than 120,000 places and country profiles with
up-to-date economic, social and cultural statistics, as well as descriptions
of 20,000 historical, cultural, and geographical features. This detailed
program is helpful for Travel and Tourism or Customs students, or anyone
interested in exploring the world.
Globe
Use Globe to learn about the geography and history of different countries
and regions. You can choose the following menu tabs to learn more about
an area: Regional Perspective, Political Geography, Economic Geography,
Cultural Geography, Spatial Correlations, and Watch List. You can also
take a mini-test on that region by clicking on the Checkup tab.
Introduction to Topographic
Maps
Maps are made easy with Introduction to Topographic Maps. Learn to determine
elevations, interpret aerial photographs and create topographic profiles.
Through sound and visual aids, you are introduced to map scale, longitude
and latitude, public land survey, universal transverse Mercator and principles
of contour lines. The “For Your Information Index” provides you with many
tidbits of information.

Canadian Resources
Canada’s Visual History
Canada’s Visual History is an 80 volume compilation of Canada’s unique
social history. This program offers archival photos, rare paintings and
drawings, as well as maps and charts to accompany history and culture
topics. Each volume includes essays on urban growth, resource development,
lifestyle, and a historical essay that in many cases has a local or regional
focus.
Canadian Treasures
Embark on a multimedia journey through Canada’s memories. Explore the
themes of Making a Nation, Discovery, Portraits, Local Stories and Nation’s
Capital through stories that portray the richness of Canada’s cultural
wealth. Relive the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series, the Bluenose beating
Colombia and the trenches of Vimy Ridge. Explore fascinating stories of
an extinct people, the largest non-nuclear explosion in history, and the
people who went over Niagara Falls.
Flypast
Flypast recounts the history of aviation in Canada and includes an album
of Canadian aircraft.
Land of the Inuit
Land of the Inuit offers interactive activities through which the user
can learn about Inuit culture including games and quizzes about the building
of an igloo, hunting a seal, or building an inukshuk (stone man). This
disk also includes an encyclopedia of Inuit culture and life.
Prime Ministers of Canada
Prime Ministers offers an extensive collection of articles, photos and
video clips illustrating the colourful public and personal lives of Canada’s
leaders, from Sir John A. MacDonald to Jean Chrétien.

Arthur's Teacher Trouble
Arthur’s Teacher Trouble is another “Living Book” multimedia program by
Random House. This children’s story comes alive with animated characters
who sing, dance and talk. Choose English or Spanish and have Arthur read
the story to you, or click “Let Me Play” to interact with the story (recommended).
Harry and the Haunted House
Harry and the Haunted House is a “Living Book” by Random House which introduces
the user to the translation of children’s stories into the world of multimedia.
Experience characters and objects springing to life with talking, moving,
singing and dancing. Choose either English or Spanish and either have
the story read to you or play inside the story (recommended).
In the Company of Whales
See how whales came to be and why they do the things they do. Using a
plethora of pictures, text and occasional videos, narrated by Patrick
Stewart (a.k.a. Star Trek’s Jean Luc Picard), you are taken on a journey
that lets you see how the whales and dolphins came to be and where they
are today. You can learn about their feeding habits, travel patterns,
sizes, and you can even consult four experts’ answers to questions about
whales.
NGS Whales
The National Geographic Society Whales by Discis is an underwater adventure
for children. The story shows blue whales, humpbacks, and killer whales.
NGS Whales explains the similarities between whales and other mammals,
right down to how they breathe and swim. NGS Whales is an interesting
story with wonderful pictures and sound effects that make learning fun,
and will answer any questions you may have about these amazing creatures.
The Animals!
Children will enjoy this exciting multimedia package presented by the
San Diego Zoo that lets you explore all aspects of your favorite wild
and captive animals. With this package you can investigate the different
climatic regions where wild animals live, such as the desert and tropical
rain forests. A Kid’s Corner and a Story Theater are also in place to
help you get a closer look into the lives of these animals, their surroundings
and their keepers.
The Paper Bag Princess
The Paper Bag Princess is an all-time favorite children’s story written
by Robert Munsch. With animated video and audio, you can follow along
with the words while learning computer and reading skills. You can click
on the pictures to hear and see words. A menu of other story previews
includes examples such as Cinderella, The Night Before Christmas and Mud
Puddle.

Britannica Encyclopedia

clips allow you to relive great moments in sports, politics, music, and
history, or to listen to the written works of great Canadian authors and
musicians. Additional references, such as MacLean’s, the English/French
and French/English versions of the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, Hutchison’s
Educational Encyclopedia and the Globe and Mail Style Book, are also included

Encarta Encyclopedia
2004, 2001 These special editions of Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia guide
you through phenomena of the past millennium with web links, essays, key
events and a Timeline which lets you click your way through historical
events and movements dating back to the year 1000. A variety of interactive
elements will engage your senses: test your knowledge with the game Mindmaze,
click anywhere on the world map to learn more about a particular area,

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia
The 1999 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia contains more than 36,000 articles,
50 guided tours, an atlas that lets you “drill down” to smaller and smaller
geographical areas, interactive time lines, videos and activities. The
New York Times Book of Science Questions and Answers is also included.
With the Grolier Encyclopedia, it is easy to search or explore topics,
and more information is available through its web links.
Webster’s Concise Encyclopedia
From the publishers of Guinness comes a completely new concept in encyclopedic
reference. Thematically arranged, the Guinness Encyclopaedia lets you
graphically research by topics, turning research into a “look and learn”
experience. More than 1000 detailed illustrations, photographs, and maps
help explain the facts and provide clarity. In addition, this encyclopedia

The World Book 2003 multimedia encyclopedias has thousands of articles,

CNN Newsroom Global View

Complete National Geographic CD
This 31-CD set contains all the articles ever published in National Geographic‘s
100-year history (1888–1997). Each CD contains articles including pictures
as they were printed originally. Use the search utility to find the articles
you want.
Magazine Rack
Complete text of articles from over 300 popular 1991 magazines. Search
by keyword. It’s quick and easy to use. A great research tool.
Time Almanac 1990's
The Time Almanac 1990s program allows easy access to Time articles from
January 1989 to May 1994. The search feature allows you to type in key
words to search both Time Magazine and the vast almanac. This almanac
provides additional information on subjects ranging from global environmental
statistics to Stanley Cup winners. With hundreds of high quality photographs,
maps and videos available, the Time Almanac is an excellent reference
source.
Time Magazine Multimedia Almanac
Time Multimedia Almanac provides a multimedia journey through seven decades
of Time. Key features include six full years of Time Magazine articles
from January 1983 through to June 1995, plus selected articles back to
1923; over 80 live action video clips from the Time video archives; “Hot
Links” which show over 100 related photos, charts & maps; and four multimedia

500 Nations starts with your basic introduction (featuring Kevin Costner)
and continues with four main topics: Pathfinders, Timeline, Homelands
