What is Distance Education?
Distance Education is an educational format where most of your learning
occurs through an electronic classroom. Most of the work is done
from home or at work on your computer, with instructional assistance
within easy reach by e-mail.
Two of our programs at Loyalist offer courses via distance education,
Developmental Service Worker and Early
Childhood Education.
How do I receive my course materials?
Most material is received through Canada Post.
Is
Distance Education for me?
If you prefer a more flexible study schedule, live a distance from
our campus locations or are unable to attend regular classes, these
courses are for you. You can expect to spend 3--5 hours/week per
course.
How do I learn?
Each course is designed to offer a wide variety of choice as to
when and how you learn. Carefully designed activites, self-tests,
and projects ensure there is plenty of opportunity to assess your
own progress and to receive feedback and guidance from your instructor.
Electronic conference areas give you the opportunity to discuss
material with other students taking your course.
What courses are available?
A full listing of courses available is online at www.ontariolearn.com
and you are welcome to contact us about registering for any of the
courses you see there, even if they are not advertised in our Focus
magazine or on our website. In our next edition of Focus, a listing
of all online courses will be available.
Note: All online courses require access to the internet.
Most courses require you have some word-processing software (eg.
MS Word, WordPerfect.)
