Literacy and Basic Skills (L.B.S.)
L.B.S. combines academic upgrading, training readiness, career and
personal development skills and job-search skills. Individualized
programs are provided for students who may attend full- or part-time.
The subjects include reading, writing, computers, mathematics and
science. Some students begin in Levels One through Four in L.B.S.,
then move on to high school level classes. Literacy and Basic Skills
classes are offered at the Belleville campus. Applicants are generally
25 years or older. A student may receive assistance with child care
and transportation costs. Tuition is free for all students in L.B.S.,
as this program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges
and Universities.
College Prep Program
The College Prep program offers a high school equivalency program.
Successful students meet the academic requirements for entry into
other College programs, and are guaranteed seats in Loyalist programs.
Subjects include mathematics, communications, computers and science,
and may be arranged in any combination that a student needs. Students
wishing to prepare themselves to write GED exams can do so in the
College Prep program. Students may enroll at the beginning of any
month of the year. Financial assistance may be available.
Admission requirements are flexible and may include testing or interviewing
by the College Prep department. This department offers programs
in cooperation with federal and provincial governments. Programs
vary in length from four to twelve months and are delivered year
round.
Students who complete Level IV of the College Prep program are considered
to meet the minimum admission requirements for college, and may
enter other college programs.
