Course Descriptions--BUSI Business Administration: GENERAL option/ELECTIVE courses


Semester Five
BUSI 3002 Materials Management 1
Students explore processes used to develop sales and operations plans that will drive the demand management process. The focus is to ensure master schedules are achievable and are consistent with stated business policies, objectives and resource constraints.
Prerequisite: BUSI 2004
BUSI 3007 Organizational Behaviour
An examination of the fundamentals of organizational behaviour including the individual within the organization; work groups, leadership, and authority; communication and decision making; change, innovation, goal setting and motivation.
BUSI 3008 Compensation Management
An experimental approach to the design and management of organizational rewards is studied. Topics include: environmental influences, theoretical approaches and processes and techniques in designing, maintaining and managing and effective compensation system.
BUSI 3011 Project Management
Students are introduced to techniques that are used to effectively manage the definition and completion of project-related tasks. Microsoft Project is used to enhance the learning process.
Prerequisite: BUSI 2003 or BUSI 2004
BUSI 3004 Business Management 3
BM3 walks students through a series of workshops that provides them with an understanding of the interrelationships among the functional areas of a business. The course provides students with an opportunity to utilize MAPICS leading-edge SyteLine ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software to simulate the manner in which the various departments within an organization operate.
BUSI 3003 Systems Applications
Learn to define information needs across several departments, and to design a microcomputer-based database system to provide a suitable solution. Topics include: information needs, problem definition, database design, and implementation.
Prerequisite: COMP 1001
Semester Six
PLAC 3004 Placement
Students learn how to develop and present a portfolio. A one-month work placement is selected by students within a manufacturing, service, or retail organization. At the completion of the placement period, each student and company will evaluate the placement experience.
BUSI 3005 Supply Chain and Logistics Management (EDI)
The course reviews the relationships of existing and emerging processes and technologies to manufacturing strategy and supply chain-related functions. Students explore competitive market issues, the choices effecting supply chain, informational technology, and organizational design.
Prerequisite: BUSI 2004

BUSI 3006 Enterprise Information Systems
This course introduces students to MAPICS leading edge CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software. Students use the CRM software to learn how to help organizations improve the productivity levels of their customer service organizations. Students learn how to champion the organizational change required to support a successful CRM implementation.

BUSI 3009 Applied Personnel
This course provides students with an understanding of the processes used to assess training needs, design and administer training and development programs and evaluate the effectiveness of such programs. The primary aim of this course is to ensure that students develop a comprehensive understanding of how the training and development function fits into both the overall mandate of human resources management and the larger environmental and organizational contexts.

BUSI 3010 Industrial Relations
An experimental approach to effective interactions between management and employees. Topics include Introduction to Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining; Collective Bargaining – Institutions, Issues and Processes; Profitability and the Future. Students will be introduced to industrial relations and will be able to develop strategies to contribute to the organizations success through effective labour and employee relations.

ACCT 3008 Accounting Management and Control
An introduction to a philosophy of the role of management through application of planning and control theory. Included is a practical example of a comprehensive profit planning and control program for a business case.
Prerequisite: ACCT 1001
