Graduates of the Biotechnology program are eligible for careers
that involve the production of medicines and vaccines, plant and
livestock improvement programs, conservation genetics, DNA profiling,
tissue culture, and genetic engineering.
Program Description:
Biotechnology is the use of living organisms or their products,
for a specific purpose. Advances due to this science include virus-resistant
crops and livestock, diagnostic techniques for detecting disease,
gene therapies to cure diseases, and vaccines to prevent diseases.
The first year provides the student with an understanding of the
basic principles and techniques involved in chemistry, biology,
physics, and computer applications. Successful completion in second
year of the specialized studies in chemistry, analytical instrumentation,
pharmacology, genetics, and Biotechnology enables the student to
receive a biotechnology technician diploma.
