Graduates may be involved in the development and testing of new
food products with health benefits. Graduates are also eligible
for careers in the conventional food and pharmaceutical industries.
Program Description:
The field of Bio-Food (neutraceutical) products is growing rapidly.
It involves the study of human health and nutrition, disease prevention
and control, and pharmaceutical technology. Many foods and plants
are being investigated for medicinal properties, and the active
ingredients isolated and then synthesized.
A technician diploma will be granted upon successful completion
of the second year that contains specialized courses in chemistry,
analytical instrumentation, pharmacology, genetics and phytomedicines.
The third year of the program contains in-depth courses in finding,
identifying and then extracting the medicinal ingredients from plants,
toxicology, biochemistry and tissue culture. A student successfully
completing the third year of the program will receive a technologist
diploma.
